Travel Palette: Featuring Mural “The Love I Vibrate”

Reading Time: 7 minutes

Colorful, Vivid, Powerful.

This week’s travel palette is inspired by the mural, “The Love I Vibrate”, located in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago. The mural was created in 2018 by Andy Bellomo, Sandra Antongiori, and Sam Kirk. While walking around the city, this mural caught my eye due to its vibrant colors and organic mesmerizing swirls. I’ve had the fortunate pleasure to connect with one of the artists from the mural, Andy Bellomo. This week, I interviewed Andy to help share the story and significance of the mural.

As I continue to build and expand this platform, I want to create a platform that helps share the voices of other creatives, artists, and designers of various backgrounds. During Pride Month, I have been reflecting on how to be a better ally.  As an ally, I am proud to use this platform to amplify LGBTQ+  voices and help celebrate queer people of color.

See the interview below to learn more about talented queer POC in our community and how they are taking strides to enhance the culture and landscape of our city and communities. Be sure to check out the end of the interview for a list of several organizations you should check out and support! After the interview, I quickly discuss how the mural inspired my color palette, my finish palette, and showcase the materials featured.

Sleek, Streamlined, and Polished.

This week’s travel palette is inspired by this image taken outside of the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. The Museum’s subtle angles, clean lines, and minimal silhouettes were the sources of inspiration for this travel-inspired color and finish palette.

Travel Palette: Downtown Durham

Reading Time: 7 minutes

Charming City, Playful Palette.

Channeling sunshine, blooming trees, and warm weather with this week’s travel palette.  This week’s travel palette is inspired by this photo taken while exploring downtown Durham, NC back in March of 2019. I couldn’t resist casting a big cheesy smile while thawing out from the long Chicago winter during a long weekend trip to North Carolina. Reviewing old travel photos has been giving me a bit of hope during this time. Enjoy this travel palette inspired by the charming architecture and streets of Durhams’s historical downtown area.

The Rays of the Sun

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Photo: Taken March 2019 in Durham, NC. Victoria’s happy sunshine face captured.

We are all experiencing an interesting time. Life has slowed down and it feels like we are in this indefinite state of suspension. We are forced to cancel or postpone upcoming trips and events and hold-off on making any travel plans in the near future. As we cope with what is unfolding in the world, we experience waves of different emotions. Last week, the Midwest was fortunate enough to have abnormally warm weather, which brought us a taste of summer. For the first time this year, I was able to experience sitting on my balcony. While appreciating the fresh air and warm weather, I grabbed my journal and allowed myself to write this stream of consciousness…

Must See Sites in Sintra, Portugal

Reading Time: 5 minutes

One of my favorite days in Portugal was our day trip to Sintra. Sintra is a town outside of Lisbon accessible by a 30-minute train ride. The day felt like I was living in a fairytale, Colorful palaces, luscious gardens, winding paths, ornate architecture, grottoes, wells, tunnels, castles, there’s so much to explore! It’s pretty much impossible to experience all the sites in one day in one visit, but here are some highlights. Want to see what Sintra is all about? Looking for things to do in Sintra? Follow me on this photo journey. Let’s see if you can make it to the end before looking into booking a flight to Portugal.

Hello, lovelies!

It’s been roughly a month since I’ve started to revive Design to Five. Whether you have been here since day one or just joining the Design to five Fam, here is a quick recap of what’s been going down these past several weeks:

I’ve flexed those videographer muscles and created my first, but not last, Design to Five travel video from my trip to Portugal last fall. Check out the scenes that make Portugal breathtaking and see me in my true form (with the inevitable derpy moments).
