Color in Review: Touch of Sand SW 9085 – Neutral Themed Decor

Reading Time: 6 minutes

A Touch of Sand and A Splash of Decor

Hey all, I am excited to introduce another segment on my blog called Color in Review.

In Color in Review, I curate a collection of items from artisans based on a featured paint color. These selected items could be just what you were looking for to take a space to the next level, whether it is for home decor or interior design projects.

The items selected are from Black artists, creatives, and designers. As I continue to use this platform to find ways to celebrate artists and creative POC, I am looking forward to providing diverse and unique items for your various project needs. I find much more joy and satisfaction purchasing artwork or decor from an artist, small business, or an artisan I’ve discovered while traveling. It creates a much more meaningful and curated space rather than having something mass-produced from a large chain store. You do have power in your purchase. You can help support local and small businesses, support artisans, and even help improve and empower communities across the globe.

This color inspiration for this curated collection is based on Sherwin Williams Color of the Month for July: Touch of Sand SW 9085.

In this post, I will discuss what paint colors coordinate with Touch of Sand SW 9085, and then I will share information about each product featured in this color curated collection. Let’s support Black artists, amplify melanated voices, and make our spaces look amazing. Now that’s what I call a win-win.

Travel Palette: Duke Gardens

Cherry Blossom Color Palette - Travel Palette
Reading Time: 6 minutes

Soft, Light, and Earthy.

This week’s travel palette is inspired by this image taken at the Duke Gardens at Duke University. Walking through a garden filled with blooming cherry blossom trees was a springtime dream back in 2019 when I visited North Carolina. These beautiful blooms within the gardens were the source of this cherry blossom inspired color palette. I don’t know about you, but I have a sweet spot for flowers. There is something so peaceful, simple, beautiful, and calming about flowers. Especially when one is surrounded by nature. I can’t help but take a step back and appreciate our Earth. Thanks Earth, you a real one.

Being able to visit the gardens while the trees were in bloom was just the cherry on top.  (I know, I know. You didn’t think I’d get through the post without at least one pun did you?) Learn a little bit about Duke Gardens and the process I went through to create this palette. Oh, and all the products featured are described and linked in case you want to bring some cherry blossom vibes to your next project. This palette is packed with newer products!

The travel palettes series was created to expand creative horizons and explore the correlation between travel, inspiration, colors, textures, and design.

Travel Palette: Featuring Mural “The Love I Vibrate”

Reading Time: 7 minutes

Colorful, Vivid, Powerful.

This week’s travel palette is inspired by the mural, “The Love I Vibrate”, located in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago. The mural was created in 2018 by Andy Bellomo, Sandra Antongiori, and Sam Kirk. While walking around the city, this mural caught my eye due to its vibrant colors and organic mesmerizing swirls. I’ve had the fortunate pleasure to connect with one of the artists from the mural, Andy Bellomo. This week, I interviewed Andy to help share the story and significance of the mural.

As I continue to build and expand this platform, I want to create a platform that helps share the voices of other creatives, artists, and designers of various backgrounds. During Pride Month, I have been reflecting on how to be a better ally.  As an ally, I am proud to use this platform to amplify LGBTQ+  voices and help celebrate queer people of color.

See the interview below to learn more about talented queer POC in our community and how they are taking strides to enhance the culture and landscape of our city and communities. Be sure to check out the end of the interview for a list of several organizations you should check out and support! After the interview, I quickly discuss how the mural inspired my color palette, my finish palette, and showcase the materials featured.

Travel Palette: Downtown Durham

Reading Time: 7 minutes

Charming City, Playful Palette.

Channeling sunshine, blooming trees, and warm weather with this week’s travel palette.  This week’s travel palette is inspired by this photo taken while exploring downtown Durham, NC back in March of 2019. I couldn’t resist casting a big cheesy smile while thawing out from the long Chicago winter during a long weekend trip to North Carolina. Reviewing old travel photos has been giving me a bit of hope during this time. Enjoy this travel palette inspired by the charming architecture and streets of Durhams’s historical downtown area.

The Rays of the Sun

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Photo: Taken March 2019 in Durham, NC. Victoria’s happy sunshine face captured.

We are all experiencing an interesting time. Life has slowed down and it feels like we are in this indefinite state of suspension. We are forced to cancel or postpone upcoming trips and events and hold-off on making any travel plans in the near future. As we cope with what is unfolding in the world, we experience waves of different emotions. Last week, the Midwest was fortunate enough to have abnormally warm weather, which brought us a taste of summer. For the first time this year, I was able to experience sitting on my balcony. While appreciating the fresh air and warm weather, I grabbed my journal and allowed myself to write this stream of consciousness…
