Reading Time: 5 minutes

I am excited to continue the series: Designer Spotlight. Designer Spotlight features different artists and designers on the blog. Towards the end of summer, I had the opportunity to interview Dina, owner of Art by Dina D.  Dina is a painter and photographer based in the DC area. She makes abstract contemporary acrylic paintings that would spice up any kind of project. Dina can be found on Etsy at ArtbyDinaD and her photography site at dinadeephotog.com.

Dina’s art was featured in August’s Color in Review: Touch of Sand SW 9085 – Neutral Themed Decor. Check out the post to see her neutral artwork and the coordinating color scheme and decor.

Travel Palette: Featuring Mural “The Love I Vibrate”

Reading Time: 7 minutes

Colorful, Vivid, Powerful.

This week’s travel palette is inspired by the mural, “The Love I Vibrate”, located in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago. The mural was created in 2018 by Andy Bellomo, Sandra Antongiori, and Sam Kirk. While walking around the city, this mural caught my eye due to its vibrant colors and organic mesmerizing swirls. I’ve had the fortunate pleasure to connect with one of the artists from the mural, Andy Bellomo. This week, I interviewed Andy to help share the story and significance of the mural.

As I continue to build and expand this platform, I want to create a platform that helps share the voices of other creatives, artists, and designers of various backgrounds. During Pride Month, I have been reflecting on how to be a better ally.  As an ally, I am proud to use this platform to amplify LGBTQ+  voices and help celebrate queer people of color.

See the interview below to learn more about talented queer POC in our community and how they are taking strides to enhance the culture and landscape of our city and communities. Be sure to check out the end of the interview for a list of several organizations you should check out and support! After the interview, I quickly discuss how the mural inspired my color palette, my finish palette, and showcase the materials featured.

The travel palettes series was created to expand creative horizons and explore the correlation between travel, inspiration, colors, textures, and design.

Designer Spotlight: Atelier Cocotte

Designer Spotlight: Atelier Cocotte- Design to Five B;log- a travel based blog for culture, travel, and all things design
Reading Time: 5 minutes

 Atelier Cocotte

Local. Eco- Friendly. Handmade.

During my visit to Montreal, I had the pleasure to meet and interview Isabelle Auger, owner of Atelier Cocotte in her studio. Isabelle started Atelier Cocotte about seven years ago. Atelier Cocotte has various eco-friendly handmade wood lamps, light fixtures, and wall clocks. Her pieces have appeared throughout Canada and the US. Cocotte means pinecone in French. Inspired by nature, her light fixtures relate to the origin of the material. The shapes of the light fixtures are inspired by fruit, nuts, flowers, and things found in woods. The light fixtures can be used in commercial and residential applications and have been used in offices, spas, restaurants, bars, boutiques, to lounges. The simplicity of the material and variety of shapes and fixtures allow her designs to be utilized in several applications. Her items can be found on her website (ateliercocotte.com) and Etsy (AtelierCocotte) and a few retailers.

Check out the interview below.
